The gravestone of Gaius Calpurnius Receptus, the priest in charge of the temple of Sulis Minerva. He carried out religious ceremonies in the courtyard and temple. The monument is shaped as an altar, and so stands as the only Roman British memorial which reflects the occupation of the deceased through it's shape. Circa 1st-4th century AD.
