Howard Cedar (born 1943), Israeli-US biochemist. Cedar was awarded his doctorate from New York University in 1970. Since 1973, he has worked at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His major work has been on DNA methylation, the process by which the genes encoded in deoxyribonucleic acid are turned on and off. His awards include the Israel Prize (1999) and the Wolf Prize in Medicine (2008). Photographed at the 'Epigenetics, Reprogramming and Development' conference hosted by the French Academy of Sciences at the Institut de France, Paris, France, from 14-15 September 2010.
