Crop formation, aerial photograph. Also called crop circles, these formations are patterns of flattened plants in crops such as wheat, barley, rye, maize or rapeseed. They started appearing frequently in the mid-1980s in south-west England. Initially unexplained, they are now known to be made by humans. Photographed in September 2009, in a field on Chisbury Hill, Wiltshire, UK.
