A plaque which decorated the palace of the Obas of Benin, The scene depicts a Portuguese soldier armed with a matchlock hunting leopards. What appears to be a diminutive, spotted cat is at his feet which may represent the prey or perhaps the huntsmans dog. Nigeria. Edo. late 16th century. Benin City.
