A plaque which decorated the palace of the Obas of Benin, It depicts a mud fish legged Oba supported by two courtiers with leopards at their feet. The mudfish legs have been interpreted as either a reference to a specific Oba who was crippled or a general symbol of power represented by an anomalous fish. Nigeria. Edo. early 17th century.
