Roosevelt bullet. Chest X-ray showing the bullet used in the non-fatal shooting of former US President Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919). Roosevelt, who had been president from 1901 to 1909, was shot on 14 October 1912 by saloon-keeper John F. Schrank (1876-1943), during Roosevelt's unsuccessful campaign in the 1912 Presidential election. The bullet is labelled at lower left. The bullet had passed through a sheaf of speech papers and a steel eyeglass case, lodging in muscle. It was decided not to remove the bullet. Schrank was declared insane and died in a mental hospital. Photograph from the Bain News Service.
