Laser holography of a molecular model. Holography uses laser beams to record the dimensions of an object as a set of interference patterns. Shining light on the pattern recreates a holographic image of the object. Here, the laser at left is being used to record holographic details of the molecular model at right. Holography was developed in the late 1940s by Dennis Gabor, with the additional use of lasers added in the 1960s. Photographed at the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, UK.
