F-107A airplane, on Rogers Dry Lakebed at Edwards Air Force Base, California, USA. This prototype jet fighter-bomber (never entering production), was one of two acquired in 1957 by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). By 1958, they had been transferred to the newly created NASA. Test flights at the High-Speed Flight Station took place between 1957 and 1959. This aircraft (55120) carried out 40 flights, and was modified with a Sidestick Flight Control System. Like the other F-107A aircraft, it had a dorsal-mounted variable-area inlet duct (VAID) and a nose-mounted boom. Photographed on 26 May 1959.
