Phosphoglucose isomerase molecule. Molecular model of a rabbit phosphoglucose isomerase molecule complexed with a fructose-6-phosphate molecule. This enzyme converts fructose-6-phosphate to glucose-6-phosphate and vice versa. It is involved in both glycolysis, the metabolic pathway that produces energy from glucose, and gluconeogenesis, the metabolic pathway that produces glucose from non-carbohydrate sources.
