Influenza A non-structural-protein 1 (ns1), molecular model. This RNA-binding protein is needed for viral replication. It binds to host mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid), preventing it from being exported from the nucleus and so inhibiting cellular protein synthesis. This prevents the cell from entering an antiviral state.
