Flowers of the Australian orchid, Thelychiton kingianus (formerly Dendrobium kingianum ). T. kinigianus is native to Eastern coastal regions of Northern New South Wales and Southern Queensland. It is a lithophyte and may form extensive clumps on rocks in open forest, up to several metres across. The picture shows flowers on a pot-grown plant in the UK in February. T. kingianus is an easy and attractive small orchid for use as a house plant. It is frost sensitive, but in the Northern Hemisphere, its most attractive appearance is in winter, when it will be indoors. In the Northern Hemisphere summer the plant can be stood outside to look after itself. It is best grown in a very open substrate comprised of bark chippings with only a small proportion of soil added. It is easily propagated by detaching aerial-rooted side growths, known as keikis
