Faraday on metals and magnetism. Page from the notebooks of British physicist Michael Faraday (1791-1867), showing notes and a table of magnetic properties of a range of metals. The metals are referred to as Rose's metals, as they were specimens sent to Faraday by the German mineralogist and analytical chemist Heinrich Rose (1795-1864). These notes date from 23 October 1847. Faraday made several major advances in the fields of magnetism and electricity, devising the first electric motor and equipment such as transformers and dynamos.
