Jekyll and Hyde story illustration. 1880s artwork illustrating the novella 'Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' (1886) by Scottish novelist Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson (1850-1894). This story is an account of strange events in London centred on the respectable gentleman Dr Henry Jekyll and the sinister character of Edward Hyde. It is eventually revealed that they are the same person (right), with the transformation effected by drinking a potion (held in hand). The character of Dr Hastie Lanyon observes this and later dies from the shock. Print published by the National Printing and Engraving Company, Chicago, USA.
