Glyptoxanthus labyrinthicus crab. This crab is found on reefs along the Pacific coast of South America. Its carapace (upper shell) is covered in a series of channels (shown here) that are identical for each individual. These channels hold water and enable the crab to live outside of the water on areas of reef exposed during low tide. The carapace (shell) of this specimen measures 5cm wide.
