Homeless after San Francisco earthquake. Tent city in Jefferson Square, San Francisco, USA, after the earthquake of 18th April 1906 and the subsequent fires. The earthquake, which had a magnitude of around 7.9, led to the deaths of over 3000 people, and some 300,000 out of the city's 400,000 inhabitants were left homeless. Tent cities sprung up in and around the city to house the refugees.
