Mary Rose wreck on display at the Royal Navy Museum, Portsmouth, England. The Mary Rose warship was sunk in battle with the French navy in the Solent Channel in 1545. The wreck was discovered in 1836, but not excavated and lifted until 1982. It was placed on display at a temperature of 5 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of 95% to stop the wood from drying and splitting. In 1994 a twenty year preservation process was begun, with the ship's hull being sprayed with polyethylene glycol.
