Steam-powered carriage. Historical artwork of a working model of the Burstall and Hill steam- powered carriage. It travelled at 4 miles per hour. Water from a cistern (A) under the carriage is heated in the boiler (B), producing steam which travels along a pipe (E) to the carriage's engines. The conductor (far right) directs the carriage using a steering wheel (C). This artwork is from an 1828 edition of the Glasgow Chronicle.
