Early electronic typewriter. This is a Selectric II typewriter manufactured by the American company IBM. The first Selectric was produced in 1961, and the Selectric II a few years later. It pioneered a new type of technology, replacing the typebars of older typewriters with a pivoting typeball (not seen). This allowed faster typing speeds and also avoided clashing typebars. It could also change font and included many mathematical symbols. This typewriter has a keyboard adapted for the Germanic languages where 'z' is more frequently used than 'y'. These characters have been swapped round from the normal QWERTY keyboard layout.
