Early 20th century steelworks. This is the Ford Motor Company steelworks at the Rouge Steel Plant, near Detroit, USA. These steelworks were developed between 1917 and 1927 as part of a continuous ore to assembly" production process for the Ford motor cars. This is one of the rolling mills, used to roll out steel sheets of the required thickness. At its peak in the 1930s, the Rouge employed over 100,000 people, producing a car every 49 seconds. In the early 21st century, the Rouge is still the largest of Ford's industrial complexes. This is a US postcard that dates from the first half of the 20th century."
