Quasar Markarian 205. Optical image of the quasar Markarian 205 (upper right) and the spiral galaxy NGC 4319 (centre). These objects lie in the constellation of Draco. Markarian 205 is about 1.1 billion light-years away, some 14 times more distant than the galaxy. Quasars (quasisteller objects) are galaxies which are very distant but very luminous. Photographed by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope in October 2002.
