Active galaxy NGC 7742. Hubble space telescope (HST) optical image of the active spiral galaxy NGC 7742. This is an example of a Seyfert galaxy, which have a highly energetic nucleus with an energy output comparable to that of quasars. The nucleus of this galaxy contains a powerful emitter of X-rays. NGC 7742 lies 72 million light years away in the constellation Pegasus. This image was taken on July 9 1995.
