Spiral galaxy. Optical image of the spiral galaxy NGC 1291. This galaxy appears ring-shaped due to its circular arms. Its nucleus (white) is oval. The arms appear bluer as they comprise mainly hot young stars, while the nucleus contains older, redder stars and a large amount of dust. NGC 1291 lies in the constellation Eridanus.
