16 Cygni B planet. Computer artwork of the planet (blue, right) that was detected in 1996 orbiting the Sun-like star 16 Cygni B. One of the gas giant planet's moons is seen in front of the planet at lower right. 16 Cygni B is the larger of the two stars at lower left. The other star is 16 Cygni A. The two stars orbit each other to form a binary star system. The 16 Cygni system is 56 light years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus. The mass of the planet is 1.67 Jupiters, but its eccentric orbit makes it unlikely that life exists on it or on its moons. For an artwork of a view from the moon, see R650/203.
