79 Ceti b planet. Artwork of the extrasolar planet 79 Ceti b (centre right) on the horizon of its moon (foreground). The parent star 79 Ceti (or HD 16141), is seen at upper right. 79 Ceti is a Sun- like star which lies 117 light years from Earth in the constellation Cetus. Two rows of sunspots are seen on its surface. 79 Ceti b is thought to be similar to Saturn. It has a mass about 70% that of Saturn (68 times that of Earth). It orbits 52 million kilometres from its star (a third of the Earth-Sun distance), taking 76 days to complete an orbit. The planet's presence was inferred in March 2000 after observing the star's wobble as it moved through space, caused by the orbiting planet.
