Open star cluster M52, optical image. This cluster contains around 200 stars, which all formed from the same cloud of gas around 35 million years ago. The distance to the cluster is still a matter of debate, with quoted distances ranging between 3000 and 8000 light years. It lies in the constellation Cassiopeia.
