Starbirth nebula. Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image of starbirth regions within nebula NGC 3603. A cluster of hot young stars (centre) has recently formed from gaseous material (brown) surrounding them. To the upper left of the cluster, the older blue supergiant Sher 25 is seen surrounded by a grey/blue ring of gas. The huge gas pillars at upper and lower right are dense gas and dust which may condense into stars. Their tips glow white as the cluster's radiation excites their gases. The Bok globules (black, top right corner) may also condense into stars. Image taken on 5th March 1999 by the HST's Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2.
