Sagittarius stars. Optical image of stars in the zodiacal constellation Sagittarius, the archer. North is at top. The four stars at upper left form the archer's body. Clockwise from the uppermost star (Nunki, or Sigma Sagittarii), they are Phi Sagittarii, Ascella (Zeta Sagittarii) and Tau Sagittarii (fainter than the other three). The bright star at lower right is Kaus Australis (Epsilon Sagittarii). The bright starfields of the Milky Way are seen at far right. The Milky Way is the band of light crossing the sky formed from the millions of stars in the plane of our galaxy. This view is looking towards the centre of our galaxy, and the starfields are particularly dense.
