Delphinus. Artwork of the constellation of Delphinus, the dolphin. Delphinus is an ancient constellation which was recorded by the Greek astronomer Ptolemy in the second century AD. It lies close to the celestial equator and is visible from both hemispheres. Delphinus contains no very bright stars, but has a distinctive shape. An almost perfect diamond marks the dolphin's body, with a lone star marking its tail.
