Sagittarius. Coloured historical artwork of the constellation of Sagittarius. The constellation is shown as a centaur archer. Sagittarius is the ninth sign of the Zodiac. The Sun is in Sagittarius between 22 November and 21 December. It is a large and important constellation, and the centre of our galaxy lies in the Milky Way (pale band, right) by the top of his bow. The path of the Sun through the sky, the ecliptic, is shown by the black and red line in upper frame. This artwork is based on a sky map by the Polish-German astronomer Johannes Hevelius (1611-1687), which was published posthumously in 1690.
