Pisces. Coloured historical artwork of the constellation of Pisces. The constellation is here depicted as two fish joined at the tail by a ribbon. Pisces is the twelfth sign of the Zodiac. The Sun is in Pisces between 19 February and 20 March. It is a large but inconspicuous constellation. It is important in astronomical terms as it contains the point where the Sun's path (red and black line) crosses the celestial equator. This point is seen at lower centre. This artwork is based on a sky map by the Polish- German astronomer Johannes Hevelius (1611-1687), which was published posthumously in 1690.
