Sedna's orbit, computer artwork. Each panel, moving anticlockwise from top left, zooms out to show Sedna's orbit in context. At top left are the planets of the inner solar system and the asteroid belt. Top right shows the planets of the outer solar system, the Kuiper Belt and Sedna. Sedna, a cold planetoid, is the most distant body known that orbits our Sun. Its distance from the Sun varies from 13-130 billion kilometres. Bottom right shows Sedna's highly elliptical orbit, which takes approximately 10,000 years to complete. Bottom left shows the orbit in the inner Oort Cloud, a spherical cloud of comets. Sedna, which was found in 2003, is the first inner Oort Cloud object to be discovered.
