Pluto and Charon. Artwork of the planet Pluto, seen with its moon Charon (upper left) in front of the Sun. Pluto is the smallest planet in our Solar System and the furthest from the Sun. Some consider it to be merely a large member of the Kuiper Belt, a cloud of rocky bodies which orbit the Sun beyond Pluto. Pluto and Charon are less than 20,000 kilometres apart. Charon orbits Pluto approximately once every six days.
