Colour enhanced Voyage 2 image of Europa, a satellite of Jupiter, taken on July 8th 1979 from 1.2 million kilometres away. The surface of Europa is smooth, lacking the numerous impact craters of some of the other satellites. It is criss-crossed by a series of curvilinear markings & fractures in the icy crust, which show elevation differences of only a few hundred meters.
