Tektites. Tektites are silica-rich glass objects thought to be formed when a meteorite impacts with the Earth. The impact melts material in the Earth's surface and catapults it several hundred kilometres away from the impact site, where the material cools and solidifies into glass. They are the driest known minerals, with an average water content of 0.005%. There are only a few areas on Earth, known as strewnfields, where tektites are found. These tektites are from the Khon Kaen District, Thailand.
