Processing data from the Hubble Space Telescope. A space scientist seen working with an image of a supernova remnant (SN1987A) made using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The HST gathers images using an array of electronic detectors. The signals from these detectors are beamed to the ground, where they are collated and processed by computers. Data made in different wavelengths may be combined to form a colour image, or data from a single wavelength may be false-coloured in order to extract the maximum possible scientific information. The scientist seen here is Dr Christopher Burrows, System Studies Scientist with the European Space Agency (ESA).
