Banknote security. Operator scanning pictures for the RAPACE system used to help detect counterfeit Euro banknotes. RAPACE (Repertoire Automatise Pour l'Analyse des Contrefacons de l'Euro) is a system that has been developed by the French police. It uses pictures and data on real and fake banknotes to allow operators to guide enquirers through a checklist to detect fake banknotes that are known to be in circulation. The data listed includes serial numbers, security hologram (being scanned here), and visible errors in printing and watermarks. As new fakes appear in circulation, the database needs to be updated.
