Confederation Bridge, Canada. Confederation Bridge is the longest bridge in the world spanning ice covered water. It spans eight miles across Northumberland Strait, linking Prince Edward Island with New Brunswick. It is a box girder bridge, made from reinforced, post- tensioned concrete. The pillars have a conical shape at their base to facillitate breakage of ice floes.
