Oresund Bridge. This is part of the Oresund Link between Copenhagen, Denmark, and Malmo, Sweden. It crosses from the Swedish coast to the artificial island of Peberholm, spanning the Flint Channel of the Oresund Strait. The central cable-stayed span allows ships through, is 57 metres above the water and has pillars 490 metres apart. The cables span 1092 metres. The two bridges that approach this central span are carried on pillars, making the bridge 7.8 kilometres long. Tunnels, railways and roads make up the rest of the 55 kilometres of the Copenhagen-Malmo Oresund Link. The bridge carries both road and railway traffic, and was built from 1997-1999. It opened in July 2000.
