Typhoon fighter plane simulator, cockpit view. The head-up display (HUD, upper centre) lets the pilot see information without looking down at the displays (lower centre). The main display screens show (from left) a radar map, a navigation map and the weapons status. The Eurofighter Typhoon, developed as the most advanced fighter jet in the world, is flown by a computerised flight control system. A range of simulators were extensively used to design and test the jet. The Eurofighter is a joint project between the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain. The first Eurofighter Typhoons are due to enter service in 2003. Photographed in 2000 at BAE Systems Warton, Manchester, UK.
