Ganci US air base, Kyrgyzstan. Satellite image of the Ganci US air base in Bishkek, Republic of Kyrgyzstan. The country leased its Manas International Airport to coalition forces at the start of December 2001. The airport has a 4200 metre runway, built for Soviet bombers, and there is space for several cargo planes to park along the taxiway. The airbase is unofficially named after Chief Peter J. Ganci Jr., chief of the New York City Fire Department who died on 11 September 2001. Image taken on 1 December 2001 by Space Imaging's Ikonos satellite.
