Nevatim Air Base, Israel, satellite image. Nevatim Air Base is located in southern Israel between Beersheba and Arad. It is one of three air bases built to replace those in the Sinai vacated by the Israeli Air Force (IAF) as a result of the 1979 Peace Treaty with Egypt. Nevatim Air Base, the only one of the three bases not to be built with American help, opened in 1983. The base has four runways and is home to three F-16 fighter jet squadrons. Nevatim is being expanded to house the IAF'S transport fleet. The new base is expected to be built by 2008. Taken by the Ikonos satellite on 15 January 2002.
