Saenger/Horus spaceplane. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) graphic of the proposed Saenger spaceplane carrying a Horus space shuttle. This wire-frame model is used as part of aerodynamics research. The Horus shuttle is the small, dark blue object with the yellow fins which sits on the back of the larger Saenger (dark/light blue). The Saenger/ Horus system is designed to provide a cheap method of launching astronauts and cargo into space. The Saenger would take off from a normal runway and, powered by jet engines, climb to 37,000 metres. It would release the Horus which would use rockets to propel itself into orbit. Saenger and Horus are designed to be reusable. They are German designs.
