Wearable computer. E-sleeve computer mounted on researcher Cliff Randell's arm. This device uses speech recognition circuits (on lower arm) to control an onHandPC (on wrist). It also has a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver and a compass to help find a location, in this case the nearest pub. Randell works in the Mobile and Wearable Computing Group at the University of Bristol, England. He has worked on this technology since 1998. Wearable technology aims to develop and integrate computing and mobile phone technology, to design new interfaces, and to miniaturize the devices so that they are worn as naturally as a watch is today. Photographed in 2002.
