The keypad printed on the jacket is backed by two sheets, comprising strips of conducting and non-conducting fabric, arranged at right angles. Holes in an insulating layer between the two sheets allow the conducting strips to come into contact when the numbers are pressed. A mobile phone transmitter and receiver can be attached to the jacket so that phone calls can be made and received via an ear piece and microphone (not seen). The fabric can be folded, crumpled and even washed. Developed at the MIT Media Laboratory, USA.
