CD-ROM compact discs. Computer artwork of multiple CD-ROM discs used for data storage, depicted in three dimensional perspective. CD-ROM (Compact Disc Read-Only Memory) may be used to store audio, visual and/or text information. CD-ROM has the power to store large quantities of digitised information. The disc is made of plastic, pressed with a series of fine depressions which represent digitised signals of coded information capable of being read by laser. The encoded layer is coated with a film of metal to reflect the laser light. Apart from having a large storage capacity, CD-ROM enables text, audio and visual data to be accessed at random.
