First Apple computer motherboard. Motherboard from the first Apple computer built by Steve Jobs and Stephen Wozniak in 1976. The motherboard consists of computer chips and other components linked by electrical pathways. The pair had designed their first board in Jobs' garage. Originally planning just to sell the motherboards, Jobs and Wozniak decided to start selling computers after their first sales call resulted in an order for fifty units. The first computer, the Apple I, was a commercial success despite being sold without a monitor, keyboard or casing. Apple Computers was incorporated in January 1977 with a third business partner, Mike Markkula.
