Computer circuit board. This is the motherboard, the main circuit board controlling a computer. The image is dominated by the cooling fan (lower centre) for the central processing unit (CPU), the microprocessor chip. The chip is underneath the fan, and carries out a vast number of calculations every second, generating the heat that requires a fan for cooling. The rigid, vertical structures at left are the random access memory (RAM) cards for dynamic access to current computer activity.
