Humanoid robot. Researcher pointing at a robotic head known as MEXI (Machine with Emotionally eXtended Intelligence). MEXI can move its ears, eyes, neck and mouth in 15 basic movements, allowing it to show certain human emotions via facial expressions. For this reason it has been called an 'emotional engine' by its designers. It is hoped that robots similar to MEXI will be suitable for use as tour guides at exhibits, as their ability to express feelings will make them more attractive to human visitors. MEXI was designed by roboticists at C-LAB, a centre run jointly by Siemens and the University of Paderborn, Germany.
