Robocup 2003. Crowd watching robots play a football match at the Robocup 2003 competition. The Robocup is an annual event in which teams of autonomous robots from various institutions play football against each other. This requires a high level of artificial intelligence: the robots should be able to recognise a ball, move towards it and propel it towards a goal. The aim of the competition is to develop a team of humanoid robots that can beat the best human side in the world by the year 2050. The cup has several leagues, including divisions for four-legged and humanoid (bipedal) robots. The 2003 event, the 7th Robocup, was held in Padua, Italy.
