Plutonium fuel production. Three technicians making plutonium fuel pellets in a glove box. The technician in the centre measures a precise amount of plutonium oxide powder. He passes this to one of the technicians on either side, who then uses a hand press to compact the powder to form a fuel pellet. When enough pellets have been pressed, they are put into the vacuum oven (foreground), where they are fused. The pellets may then be put into fuel rods, ready for use in a fast-breeder reactor. Photographed at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico USA.
